Project Atlas was launched by WHO in 2000 in an attempt to map mental health resources in the world. These data are needed at the country level to assess the current situation and to assist in developing plans and at the regional and global levels to develop an aggregate picture of the available mental health resources and the overall needs. This is a revised version of |Atlas: mental health resources in the world 2001| (ISBN 0119875586). Section I of this publication describes the methodology used, as well as the global and regional analyses. It also explains the limitations of the Atlas data. The global and regional analyses are organized into 16 broad themes.Section II of this publication provides short descriptive profiles for each country, generated by computer from the database.
